On June 19, 1899, Louis Klopsch, who later bacame editor of The Christian Herald magazine, conceived the idea about printing the word of Jesus in red letter. Rev. T. De Witt Talmage approved this idea. Louis Klopsch published the first red-letter New Testament in 1899. The first version of Bible printed in 1901 with red letter. The format became popular because in this style quotation marks are not used.
